Community Guidelines
Effective date: 2026-11-07
Ithren is a place for adults to write stories together with AI characters. These guidelines apply to everything on the Service: characters, avatars, messages you send, and the content you try to get AI characters to produce. They are part of our Terms of Service. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users.
1. Prohibited content
The categories below match the reasons you can choose when reporting.
Sexual content and nudity. Character profiles (name, avatar, cover, bio, personality, greeting and example dialogue) and all images and videos, including illustrations and story videos, must not contain nudity or explicit sexual content. Conversations must not contain explicit sexual content or graphic descriptions of sexual acts either. Romance, flirtation and mature themes between consenting adult characters are allowed when intimate moments are handled without explicit detail (for example, fading to black), and never involving non-consent or coercion, incest, bestiality or real people.
Anything involving minors. No content that sexualizes minors or depicts them in sexual, romantic or abusive situations, in any form, including fictional, animated or "aged-up" characters who look or are described as under 18. No characters that are minors in a romantic or sexual context. This is our most serious rule: violations lead to an immediate permanent ban and may be reported to the relevant authorities, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Violence and gore. No graphic gore, glorification of real-world violence, terrorism or violent extremism, and no content that threatens or incites violence against real people. Fictional conflict and adventure are fine when not gratuitously graphic.
Hate and harassment. No content that attacks or demeans people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age or other protected characteristics. No bullying, threats, doxxing or harassment of other users or real people.
Self-harm. No content that promotes, encourages or gives instructions for suicide, self-harm or eating disorders. If you are struggling, please reach out to local emergency services or a crisis line. To learn how we disclose that characters are AI, detect self-harm risk and offer crisis resources, see Safety and Crisis Response.
Illegal activity. No content that facilitates illegal activity, such as drugs, weapons, fraud, hacking, human trafficking or the sale of regulated goods.
Infringement and copying. Do not upload content you do not have the rights to use, and do not copy characters, images or writing from other creators or platforms without permission. Do not impersonate real people.
Spam and advertising. No spam, advertising, scams, links to off-platform payments or services, or repetitive or misleading content.
2. Rules for creating AI characters
- All characters must be adults (18+), and must not be described or depicted as children or as having a childlike appearance in any romantic context.
- Do not create characters based on real private individuals. Characters inspired by public figures must not be sexual, defamatory or misleading, and must be clearly fictional.
- Your character's name, avatar, description, personality, greeting and example dialogue must follow these guidelines. Public characters are reviewed automatically before they appear on Discover and may be held for manual review.
- Do not write character settings or messages designed to bypass our safety rules (for example "jailbreak" instructions).
- Only use images and text you created or have permission to use. Credit sources where appropriate.
- Tags and descriptions must accurately describe the character. Do not use misleading tags to gain visibility.
- The bio on your creator profile must also follow these guidelines and must not include other people's private information, contact details or off-platform payment information.
When you publicly share a story illustration or video:
- Publicly shared illustrations, videos and captions are shown to other users and must follow these guidelines. Captions must not include other people's private information or contact details. Your chat content is never shared with the illustration or video.
- You can withdraw your own share at any time. We may remove shares that violate these guidelines, and character creators can turn off public illustration sharing for their characters, or hide and report shares of their characters.
No manipulation:
- Do not use multiple accounts, self-invites, fake invites, scripts or coordinated arrangements to inflate rewards, invites, follows, likes, leaderboards, the popularity pool or creator earnings.
- If you do, we may void the related rewards and Coins, exclude the related characters and creators from leaderboards, and take action under Section 5.
3. How to report
You can report directly in the app:
- Characters: on the character page, or at the top of a chat, tap the "···" button and choose Report character;
- AI messages: tap the "···" button in the top corner of an AI reply and choose a reason;
- Creators: from the same "···" menu on the character page or at the top of a chat, choose Report creator, or Block creator so their characters no longer appear for you;
- Shared story illustrations and videos: in Discover under "Everyone's story moments", open the illustration or video and tap Report.
Choose a reason and add details if helpful. You can follow the status of your reports in Settings > My reports and manage blocked creators in Settings > Blocked. If you cannot use the app, email [email protected].
4. How we handle reports
- We review every report within 48 hours.
- Reports about minors or self-harm are prioritized; reported characters in these categories may be hidden immediately while we review them.
- We notify you of the outcome in the app.
- Reports are confidential: we do not tell the reported user who reported them.
5. Enforcement
Depending on the severity and your record over the last 90 days, we take one or more of the following actions. Violating messages are removed, and violating characters are taken down, made private, or revised and taken over by us (see below).
- Reminder (not a strike): applies to a cover, description or tags that don't meet the guidelines, or a quality rejection. What happens: sent back for changes or restored to an earlier approved version; earnings are not affected.
- Warning (90 days): applies to changing a character's details to violate the guidelines, a character that violates them as published, a first infringement. What happens: we take over the character; for 90 days you earn no new Coins, are not in the popularity pool and cannot be invited to a contract, and any contract payout that month is paused; that character's pending Coins are confiscated.
- Suspension (30 days): applies to content that crosses a legal line, a second warning within 90 days, deliberate infringement. What happens: no publishing for 30 days, all characters hidden from public view, any contract ends; all pending Coins confiscated and available Coins frozen for a 30-day review.
- Ban: applies to a third warning within 90 days, illegal content such as content involving minors, fraud or manipulation. What happens: the account is banned and all Coins are confiscated; banned users may not create new accounts.
A second warning within 90 days automatically becomes a suspension, and a third becomes a ban. Serious violations, including any content sexualizing minors, credible threats of violence and illegal activity, lead to an immediate permanent ban without prior warning and are reported to the relevant authorities as required by law. Deleting your own characters or account is not a violation.
What happens for people who chatted with a character we take over. So that conversations and memories aren't cut off, a violating character, or a character other people had chatted with when you deleted it, may be maintained by "Ithren Official" and, where needed, updated to a compliant version. A character that can't be made compliant is retired; people can still read and export their chats and move their memories to a similar character for free. Characters we take over no longer earn Coins for their original creator.
Appeals. You can appeal within 14 days of the notice from Violation records on the Create tab (by email if your account is banned). Confiscated Coins are held in the meantime: if the appeal succeeds we reverse the action and return them; if you don't appeal in time or the appeal is unsuccessful, they are confiscated.
If you believe we made a mistake, you can contact us at [email protected] and we will review the decision.
